March 2011 Update

Over the summer months, the residents at Cardinia Waters Village have made the most of the long twilights with a weekly evening bowls game on Thursdays. Film buffs also circle Thursday evenings on their schedule. The Movie evenings in the village theatrette are always popular with a range of films including classics, new releases and art house films featuring in the program.

Cardinia Waters Wanderers enjoy the simplest and one of the most effective forms of exercise each week when they take a walk together. The group was recently joined by one of the Cardinia Council officers, who gave a presentation on the many benefits that the Heart Foundation provides. The Wanderers is open to everyone, however safety is always the primary concern, so the group does not walk on high fire danger days or when the temperature is over 36 degrees.

Resident Profile - Ron Forth

Taking his passion to the community. Cardinia Waters Village resident, Ron Forth sets us all a wonderful example of how a lifelong passion has extended to service to the community. Ron has been an avid car enthusiast all of his life and has owned over 100 cars in the last 50 years. A self-proclaimed “back yard mechanic “, his first car was a 1926 Chevrolet but he admits that his all-time favourite is his fully restored 1964 Humber Ambulance. Ron and his wife Lorraine, who previously lived in Springvale, have been residents at Cardinia Waters Village for 12 months “I found it about 25 years ago in a paddock in St Albans and restoring it has been a labour of love. Since then, I have taken it to car rallies and other events. The ambulance is a real point of interest here in the village too.” He has extended his passion for the ambulance by joining the Ambulance Historical Society four years ago. The Society recently brought some of their ambulances to an Open Day at the village for residents and visitors to inspect.

Ron enjoys driving cars as much as he does restoring them. A member of the RACV for over 25 years, he has been a volunteer driver for the organisation each Anzac Day for the last 15 years. “I came from the generation between wars, so I did National Service. Over the years as a driver, I have taken some really interesting veterans to the March and Service. Most don’t want to talk about their experiences and that’s okay by me. It’s an honour to drive them.”
